Saint Lucia Observes World Metrology Day
The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards joins the International community to commemorate World Metrology Day on Wednesday 20th May 2015.
The global theme is “Measurements and Light.” The theme recognizes the importance of light in everyday life and reflects the United Nations focus on 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based technologies. Metrology is significant to enabling innovation in light and light based technologies for more efficient energy production and support initiatives addressed at tackling of climate change.
This will require the following according to the International Bureau of Legal Metrology (BIML);
- More measurements to understand and improve the efficient of electrical appliances
- An increase in the amount of clean energy produced and consumed and
- Additional international standards that apply directly to the area
The SLBS is active in the promotion and implementation of efficiencies in lighting through standardization and conformity assessment. The SLBS has completed a first phase of testing of CFL lamps and is assessing the development of standards for Solid State Lighting LED Lamps.
The SLBS is at the forefront of the transition to new energy efficient lighting technologies with its testing platform provided by the Eastern Caribbean Energy Labelling Project with financing from the EU/ACP Energy Facility, the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation Development (BMZ) and the energy OECS Secretariat.
