SLBS Awards Quality Mark to Food Products 


 

It was a first for the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, when it awarded quality mark for food products to a bakery and two agro-processing businesses.  Debbies Plus Bakery, under the Addies Plus Bakery label of La Clery, Castries, Ms St. Rose Creole Delight in Bocage, Castries for the production of jams, guave cheese, fudge, sugar cake and juices and  Vels Multi Services Ltd.,  Richfond, Dennery for Latanye wine and Mauby bark.  

The mark is expected to be a signature service of the SLBS, with a sizable chunk of small businesses expected to take an interest in getting certified to specific standards.

The business owners all said it was is an extremely proud achievement for them, as it showed their willingness to providing a quality product as well as making them leaders among their peers.  

Director of the SLBS Dr. Mkabi Walcott shared the success with the companies saying, that  the SLBS has a mandate to promote a quality infrastructure and being able to meet the need for certification to quality for emerging industries was critical to sustainable development efforts.  Further the promotion of a quality infrastructure is rewarded with the participation of organizations, independently and voluntary in embracing a quality culture in St. Lucia.
