SLBS awards Quality Logo to Food Products

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards awarded its first quality logo for food products to a bakery and two agro-processing businesses.  Debbies Plus Bakery, under the Addies Plus Bakery label of La Clery, Castries, Ms St. Rose Creole Delight in Bocage, Castries for the production of jams, guave cheese, fudge, sugar cake and juices and  Vels Multi Services Ltd.,  Richfond, Dennery for Latanye wine and Mauby bark 

The logo, awarded under a process certification scheme is issued to products which meet the requirements of the relevant national standard. These establishments submitted to a programme of rigorous inspection and examination to meet the requirements to become certified.

This is an extremely proud achievement for these cottage industries, as the presence of the mark on their products means that the SLBS is providing third party verification about the quality of that product.

Director of the SLBS Dr. Mkabi Walcott says the SLBS has a mandate to promote a quality infrastructure and being able to meet the need for certification to quality for emerging industries is critical to sustainable development efforts.  Further the promotion of a quality infrastructure is rewarded with the participation of organizations, independently and voluntary in embracing a quality culture in St. Lucia. 

A signing ceremony took place on Wednesday 22nd October at the SLBS conference room in Bisee.
