Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards

SLBS ... Making quality and standards our way of life

Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards marks World Accreditation Day

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standard will mark June 9th World Accreditation Day with a focus on promoting confidence in the quality of services  and products delivered to the consumer by the use of Quality Management Systems.

There are a series of quality management systems standards prescribing requirements for a range of products and services offered to the consumer. Quality management systems are the blueprint for a business to assess its competencies in all areas of its operations.

Accreditation is the procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition that a body is competent to carry out specific tasks.
The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards will mark the observance with a focus on the operations of local laboratories. Recently, there has been a push by local laboratories to expand capacity and expertise in order to develop a Quality Management System and achieve accreditation.

This effort is being supported by a project of the Caribbean Laboratory Accreditation Services (CLAS), funded by the European Union and implemented by the Caricom Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), to facilitate the creation, implementation and functioning of Regional cooperation in Accreditation.

An important aspect of quality management systems is the focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations. Quality management systems can be applied to any organization, setting reviewing parameters for the organizational structure, policies, processes and resources.

The pursuit of quality brings both the consumer and the service provider closer in that there are shared goals aimed at the avoidance of problems and the correction of problems if and when they arise. For laboratory services, improving the ability to consistently produce valid results remains a primary goal.

World Accreditation Day will be observed with a meeting of laboratory personnel and other stakeholders at the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, Bisee Industrial Estate from 10a.m.
